On a cold winter’s day, local artist Chichi Miller had her camera in hand as she usually does when out and about. Since Miller specializes in portraits and painted rocks, she often carries a camera for capturing ideas for future works of art. And like many lake dwellers, Excelsior resident Miller loves the ice and all of the winter activities it brings: “I love skating on the lake when the ice is smooth and free of snow,” she says.

Combining her hobbies with her art, Miller enjoys photographing the various ice formations and patterns that occur naturally, but she notes she has to work quickly in the first days of winter. “The photos are mostly taken early after the freeze and before all the frozen lake traffic starts: cars, snowmobiles, ice fishers and skiers,” Miller says.

The result was an image that celebrates the natural beauty of each winter’s frozen Lake Minnetonka. “The ice bubbles, cracks, rocks and unique artistic designs are so enjoyable in the cold winter. God's creations are exciting and refreshing; you never know what you will find!” she exclaims.

Congratulations to Miller and her image “Minnetonka Ice 1” on being selected for our Last Glance page. Look for the judges’ favorite photos from the Lens on the Lake Minnetonka photo contest to grace this page throughout the year.
