Emily Joslin’s “A Snowy Day” took second place in the People & Families category of our 2018 Lens on Lake Minnetonka contest.

Each month, we feature one of the winning photos from our 2018 Lens on Lake Minnetonka photo contest. This month, we asked photographer Emily Joslin to tell us about “A Snowy Day,” which received second place in our People & Families category.

When and where did you take the photo?
I took this photo…in the woods in my backyard on January 22, 2018 after one of the snowstorms that year.

What kind of camera did you use?
I took this photo using a Canon t6i.

What’s your favorite thing about the image?
My dog Gracie loves to play in the snow, so my sister and I decided to venture out into our woods, and I thought the frosted trees looked too pretty not to bring my camera. My favorite thing about this photo is how strongly my sister’s red jacket contrasts [with] the white surroundings. I especially love how my dog and sister are matching with their coats.

What’s your photography background?
I don’t have a strong photography background other than a few classes in high school and a simple love for capturing pretty moments.
