DESCRIPTION:Step into a world of gentle wonder through the luminous watercolor batiks of Ruth Hanson\, where every brush stroke simulates an element in nature. Working on delicate rice paper\, Hanson layers color and wax with a quiet mastery that reveals the enchanting\, comforting world found in her landscapes and florals. \nBatik artistry is an ancient technique with origins tracing back at least 2\,000 years and the basic wax-resist dyeing process may be as old as 5\,000 BCE. Evidence of its early use has been found in ancient Egypt\, India and China\, with the art form highly developed in Indonesia. \nMeet the artist Ruth Hanson from 5–7 p.m. on December 5 in the Café Gallery. Nature in Batik will be on display from November 12\, 2025–January 5\, 2026.
