SUMMARY:Minnetonka Choral Society Presents "Path to a Premiere"
DESCRIPTION:Featuring a newly commissioned work from Elaine Hagenberg. \nHow does a composer move from an idea (and a text) to a composition? We’ll answer this with our premier of Aeterna Via (Eternal Way) by America’s choral master\, Elaine Hagenberg\, which Minnetonka Choral Society collaboratively commissioned. We’ll set the stage with Elaine’s earlier works: two meditative and two propulsive\, from Illuminare. We’ll explore how a composer changes and grows through early and late works by Mozart\, and by showcasing music from which Elaine’s artistry grew\, The Road Not Taken by Randall Thompson. We are proud to trace an artistic journey with this rising musical creator in our Path to a Premier.

SUMMARY:"Toward the Trees" Artist Meet & Greet
DESCRIPTION:Walk toward the trees! Take in Mary Pat Maracle’s textured photo encaustics of detailed broadleafs and Kristen Palm’s vivid\, representational abstract trees and landscapes. Step back to experience Palm’s bold colors and shapes that evoke our tall sylvan relatives in acrylic\, then step closer to observe the blankets of palpable wax\, layered intricately by Maracle. Though both artists depict trees in different ways—sometimes playful and loud\, other times ghostly with an underlying structure of branches and twigs—each style of work celebrates their own connection to the trees that surround us. \nCost: Included with general daily admission\, which is free for members and ages 15 and younger and $20–25 for non-members ages 16 and older. Indigenous peoples receive waived general daily admission to the Arboretum when making a reservation by calling 612.301.6775. \nArtist Meet & Greet \n1–3 p.m. May 16 in the Cafe Gallery \nMeet the artists behind two very different media\, but equally inspired by the natural world and their places within it. Artists include Mary Pat Maracle and Kristen Palm.

SUMMARY:"Viewpoint" Artist Meet & Greet
DESCRIPTION:Viewpoint brings together the distinct artistic lenses of Brian Jensen and Mary Meuwissen to explore how we perceive our surroundings. \nJensen offers a viewpoint rooted in clarity and memory—his precision-based acrylics on wood capture the iconic beauty of Minnesota’s landscapes and lakes with a storyteller’s eye. \nIn contrast\, Meuwissen offers a viewpoint from within. Her abstract\, luminous layers of oil and wax paintings strip away the literal to reveal the emotional essence of a place. When looking at her pieces\, you witness the joyful shifting of energy in nature. \nThis exhibition invites you to shift your own perspective and find beauty in it all. \nArtist Meet & Greet \n11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. on May 31 in the Reedy Gallery. \nJoin us for an informal meet and greet with the artists Mary Meuwissen and Brian Jensen. You will be able explore the collection and chat with Mary and Brian about their creative process.
