October, also known as the spooky season, is upon us. I often look for ghost stories when picking out books during Halloween time. Here are a couple books that are perfectly spooky, but not too scary, to read during this time of year.
Adults:
Rules for Ghosting by Shelly Jay Shore tells the story of Ezra Friedman, a transgender man who happens to see ghosts, which made growing up in a funeral home difficult. He must return to the funeral home when it gets into financial straits. This heartfelt novel has ghosts, a touch of romance, LGBTQIA+ representation and funeral home shenanigans.
Kids:
The Skull by Jon Klassen retells a Tyrolean folktale of a girl named Otilla, who is taken in by an animate skull while running away from an unspecified danger. She and the skull work to help each other in this slightly creepy tale of courage and friendship.

Hennepin County Library has copies of these titles in various formats. Why not check them out?
