Sites such as VRBO and Airbnb have made renting a home for vacation a breeze.

As a traveling family, there are times when we stay at a hotel and enjoy all of its amenities; however, as a family of five—which typically requires us to book two hotel rooms—we often choose to rent a home during our travels. Sites such as VRBO and Airbnb have made this a breeze. It’s also an amazing option when traveling with extended family or friends; it’s much easier to congregate in one central place for games, puzzles, meals and generally spending more valuable time together. Renting a home also usually means you save a few pennies, and have the option of enjoying meals at “home.” We like to pick up breakfast foods to keep in the kitchen so we are only eating lunch and dinner out. With our kids, we’ve rented some pretty cool cabins and houses all over the world. The kids will never forget the cabin with the unique teepee tent outside in Sundance, Utah. Or a cabin located in the most majestic setting in Seward, Alaska. Or the time we went with extended family and rented a house right on the shores of what felt like a private beach with the most turquoise waters on North Caicos. It gives you a chance to feel even more like a local when you travel. If you’re headed on a vacation where you stay in a few different locations, mix it up! Stay at a rental property to start and then end your adventure enjoying hotel amenities for a few nights. It’s the best of both worlds.
