The major fundraiser for the Greater Wayzata Chamber of Commerce called off due to weather.

The organizers behind the Wayzata Chilly Open have made the difficult decision to cancel the annual winter celebration due to unsafe ice conditions on Lake Minnetonka.

Although the organizers explored alternate ideas, they decided to ultimately cancel the community event. “This has just been a terrible year for winter events,” according to a press release. “This treasured event is a major fundraiser for the chamber, so it’s not only a blow to the Chilly Open supporters and participants, but also to our nonprofit organization.”

Organizers note that the 2025 Chilly open will use the same theme—BORN IN ’84—so, “hold on to your leg warmers and we will see our favorite squad soon.”

The Wayzata Chilly Open has been a Lake Minnetonka mainstay since 1984. Each year, a team of volunteers have carved out three nine-hole golf courses on the ice for more than 1,800 golfers. Golf teams don their theme-appropriate apparel and hit the (icy) green armed with golf clubs or hockey sticks to putt tennis balls around Wayzata Bay.

The 2025 Wayzata Chilly Open is scheduled for February 8, 2025.
