Great holiday music is timeless, often mysterious in origin. We only recently determined, “O Come, All Ye Faithful” was created by an English priest living in France, who wrote the lyrics in Latin because his French wasn’t up to the task. (We’ll sing it in English with our audience.) We’ll also enjoy two lovely versions of “Coventry Carol”, one from 1591, another 1913, and a carol with 4th century text, 16th century music, early 20th century translation and a late 20th century arrangement! To these age-old miracles, we’ll offer songs by jazzy Dave Brubeck, soulful Bobby McFerrin, and a jazz-based version of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” in honor of the poem’s 200th anniversary. We’re presenting our widest variety of seasonal songs ever and just maybe the merriest!
