Barbro Brost’s debut title discusses healthy practices for a better life.

Barbro Brost, doctor of chiropractic and director of Wayzata’s The Brost Clinic, authored Healthy Living: How to avoid sickness and pain naturally in November 2024.

“My book is written for anyone who wants inspiration and ideas on how to make small changes in everyday habits to gradually create a trajectory towards better health, instead of a downward spiral to chronic pain and diseases,” Brost says.

We spoke with Brost about what readers can expect from Healthy Living.

Tell us about your book.

BB: Healthy Living: How to avoid sickness and pain naturally, is about taking care of your body and your health before you get sick or develop health issues. About 80 percent of chronic health problems that people develop are because of daily lifestyle choices.

Our culture is full of junk food, unhealthy snacks and drinks that—in combination with a sedentary lifestyle, too much screen time and social isolation—lead to a downward spiral of decreased health.

This book is an easy, inspirational read that gives simple ideas and lifestyle changes that gradually can increase your health and vitality.

What inspired the book?

BB: The culture of just covering up symptoms with pharmaceuticals instead of solving the underlying cause of the problem is changing. The opioid crisis, for example, has woken a lot of people up to the potential danger and side effects of drugs, and more and more people are looking for ways to improve their health to prevent chronic pain and diseases. My book is written to inspire people to take more responsibility for their health.

Do you have any tips for healthy living post-holidays and into the new year?

BB: The new year is always a great time to stop and evaluate food and exercise habits and make promises of improvements. The problem is that many good intentions fizzle out after a few weeks! This book helps inspire you to stay on course to better health in years to come.

Brost provides a straightforward checklist for 2025:

  • Eat more fruits and vegetables.
  • Avoid artificial sweeteners, coloring agents and preservatives.
  • Curb consumption of inflammatory foods like wheat and seed oils.
  • Water is the only drink the body needs.
  • Move more, sit less! Ten thousand steps a day is a good idea.
