A lightning round of questions with Excelsior fire chief Curt Mackey.
We asked new Excelsior Fire District chief Curt Mackey to tell us what he loves about fighting fires in his hometown.
How long have you lived in the Excelsior area?
I have lived on the west side for 24 years.
How long have you been a firefighter?
I started in 1996 with the Hopkins Fire Department. I served as a firefighter for three years, a lieutenant for two years, captain five years and assistant chief for 14 years. Now I’m the Excelsior Fire District chief.
What’s your favorite thing about the Lake Minnetonka area?
My favorite thing is all the outdoor activities. I love the outdoors.
Tell us about your family.
I have a wife, Doreen, two sons—Derik and Noah—and two dogs, Billy (an Italian greyhound) and Thurston (a Chihuahua).
