Wayzata nonprofit names the local chapter of an international club as one of its Community Partner Award recipients.

If you’ve attended one of the Lions Club of Wayzata’s annual waffle breakfast fundraisers, there’s a good chance you met one (or more!) of the club’s honored guests. Each year, the Wayzata Lions Club invites the people Hammer Residences & Northeast Residence (Hammer & NER) support to join in on what has become a beloved community tradition for many.

With Hammer & NER and the Lions Club of Wayzata each serving the community for over 70 years, it’s no wonder the organizations have such a longstanding friendship. “When you have mission-minded organizations in the same small, but growing community, they are bound to connect,” says Ginger Venable, a member of Hammer & NER’s development team. “The mission of the international Lions Club is to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities and support those in need through humanitarian service and grants that impact lives. Our shared values have led to a long and valued relationship.”

Since 1986, the Lions Club has donated a cumulative $58,000 to Hammer & NER, which in turn has used the funds to further its mission of supporting over 370 adults with intellectual and other disabilities across the Twin Cities. This longtime dedication is, in part, what led to the Lions Club of Wayzata’s recent recognition.

Hammer & NER’s Community Partner Award “recognizes those who have made a positive impact on the lives of the people we serve or whose efforts have greatly supported our mission to provide people with intellectual and other disabilities the opportunity to live life to its fullest,” says Jennifer Hipple, Hammer & NER’s communication specialist.

Rise and Shine

The Lions Club of Wayzata’s annual waffle breakfast is hosted on the last Saturday of February at St. Bart’s Catholic Church in Wayzata. The event is open to the community, and a portion of the proceeds go to benefit Hammer & NER.
