The Inland Lake Yachting Association brings its championship regatta to the waters of Lake Minnetonka.
Over 250 sailors, along with family and friends, will descend upon the shores of Lake Minnetonka from July 25–August 2 for nine days of sailing competitions. “This regatta is about more than competition—it’s about a lifetime progression in sailing,” says Mike Hanson, Minnetonka Yacht Club club manager. “When you look around during the Inlands, you see families racing together, old friends reconnecting and new friendships forming. It’s a week where generations come together, helping guide and support those new to and returning to the sport.”
The regatta will be broken into three divisions, based on style of boat, offering an opportunity for sailors of all stripes.
- Optimist Dinghy (Opti): An approachable entry point for young sailors, looking to crew single-handed. Race: July 25–27
- X Boat: A larger and more technically advanced option for youth sailors that brings together crews of family, friends and siblings. Race: July 28-30
- Melges 15 (M15): An opportunity for youth and adult sailors, looking to compete double-handed. Race: July 31-2
Spectators are able to enjoy the races and cheer on competitors from the shore or their personal watercraft in designated viewing areas.
The festivities are not confined to the water, and the week promises to hold family-friendly events, including evening socials and a volleyball tournament.
