Community gatherings are important to the area for a host of reasons, including civic, educational and recreational focuses. Trista Day, set for 11 a.m.–2 p.m. May 17 at the Minnetrista City Campus, 7701 County Road 110 W., checks all those boxes.
The annual event originated in 2001 as a vehicle to share safety information with the community. That focus still includes highlighting safety pertaining to air bags, DWI, fire, firearms, first aid, parks and trails, seatbelt use, theft prevention, water and many other safety topics. “It’s a family-friendly event that started out as a safety event but has expanded,” says Amie Langenfeld, the administrative assistant with the city’s police department.
Langenfeld notes that about 1,000 people gather for Trista Day, and local businesses and churches also have become active participants in the day. For example, River Valley Church hosts the free popcorn tent and a bounce house, and Freshwater Church provides a bounce house. Local businesses are on hand with product and service displays. (Watch for giveaways.)
The day also features plenty of children’s activities, a helicopter landing, a petting zoo, pony rides and food trucks, offering for-purchase items.
