February’s Drink Pick: A Full-bodied Red Wine That’s a Great Value

by | Feb 2019

Horse Heaven Hills Canoe Ridge Explorer red wine

Enjoy this one with beef or veggie stew, roast beef or chocolatey desserts.

For February, try a great red blend from Washington State. Much like its neighbors, Washington has great wine-growing regions, and many unique appellations that rival places like Napa and Sonoma. Thought it has a little less street cred as it’s newer to the game, Horse Heaven Hills is a small appellation that makes up a segment of the Columbia valley area. Their Canoe Ridge Explorer red blend is a Bordeaux-style blended wine that’s a really great value. It’s medium- to full-bodied, and mostly comprised of Cabernet and Merlot. You’ll find plum and berry flavors, oaky undertones, and a great value, with the 2015 vintage receiving 91 points from Wine Spectator. Enjoy this one with beef or veggie stew, roast beef or chocolatey desserts. $19.99.
