Nelson Hill’s photo was a favorite in the City Landmarks category of our Lens on Lake Minnetonka photo contest.
Each month, we feature one of the winning photos from our 2018 Lens on Lake Minnetonka photo contest. This month, we asked photographer Nelson Hill to tell us about “Lafayette Bay Sunset.”
When and where did you take the photo?
I took the photo in early June of 2018 at my cabin on Big Island.
What kind of camera did you use?
I used a Nikon D810 with a 10 stop ND filter. I was able to create the soft water effect by leaving the exposure open for a minute and a half.
What’s your favorite thing about the image?
My favorite thing would have to be all the colors … I love how there is something happening in all parts of the frame, and most importantly, I love a Minnetonka sunset. Nothing beats that!
Tell us more about your photography background.
I studied film in New York and after, moved to L.A. to work on productions … I moved back to Minnesota to pursue photography, which turned into a full-time thing. I mainly work with Life Time Athletic … On the side, I photograph weddings, newborns, families and real estate.
