An invitation to dinner, especially when it’s within walking distance to Lake Minnetonka, is always a reason to RSVP, “Yes.”
Digital editor Madeline Kopiecki and I found ourselves happily attending the friends and family event at Belle & Grey, which was making its debut as The Hotel Landing’s premier dining spot.
As we settled in, we were joined by a lovely glass of rosé and a Bootlegger, with its origins tracing back to the shores of Lake Minnetonka. Belle & Grey’s version features the signature puckery mix of lemon, lime and mint to serve as a counterpoint to Maker’s Mark bourbon—topped with a splash of soda. (On point.)
Next to arrive were Fried Artichokes with béarnaise aioli and charred lemon. (Crave worthy.) While there are many tempting dishes inhabiting the menu, my litmus test is basic: If a restaurant can’t produce a great burger, then it’s likely it can’t do much with more complicated menu options. Belle & Grey’s signature burger, made with local Wagyu, cheddar cheese and onion-bacon jam didn’t disappoint, especially paired with twice-cooked french fries. (Classically delish.) The Red Brick Chicken with chimichurri, crispy potato and grilled asparagus joined in. The brick chicken method was carried out to a T—offering deliciously crispy skin that contrasted with moist chicken. The chimichurri added a freshness to the overall dish, which was rounded out by decadent golden potatoes and a bed of asparagus spears. (A reorder.)
The final guests at our table were Chocolate Budino with mascarpone cream, brandied cherries and a shortbread cookie topper and Sticky Toffee Pudding, complete with dates, pecans, salted toffee and butter pecan ice cream. (Seconds, please!)
