Spring Blizzard

Photo: Nelson Hill

Even in late spring, a blizzard can be beautiful.

Each month, we feature one of the winning photos from our 2019 Lens on Lake Minnetonka photo contest. This month, we asked photographer Nelson Hill to tell us about “Spring Blizzard,” which received first place in our Wildlife & Nature category.

What kind of camera did you use?
The camera I used is a Hasselblad H5D with an 80mm prime lens. It’s a medium format camera that is so much fun to shoot with.

When and where did you take the photo?
I took the photo last spring in April … It was right after a super warm week; all the snow melted and everyone was in summer mode. Then all of a sudden … there was a blizzard. I had to run out and take photos because it was so exciting and beautiful.

What’s your favorite thing about the image?
How the dock reflects off the water and stands in stark contrast with the snow lightly falling on the boats.
