One of the special things about living in the Land of 10,000 Lakes is that one can easily find open water for recreational exploits of all sorts. For Minnetrista’s Camille Nelson, Lake Zumbra was the natural backdrop for her winning photo, Loons Swimming.

“The lake is within a mile of my home,” Nelson says. “It is one of my favorite lakes to kayak because it is small, and I see lots of great wildlife. I love being out in nature—whether it’s on the lake or deep in the woods.”

While Nelson says she engages in photography as a hobby and as a way to destress, “My goal is to eventually become a professional wildlife photographer.”
