Kids can enjoy a trip to wine country as much as Mom and Dad.
If you ask our kids to name their top travel experiences, they will surely tell you that our trip to Healdsburg, California is one of them. Yes, you read that right: We took our kids to wine country. And it was one of our favorite trips. If you love food and wine, you definitely need to consider a trip to Healdsburg. Anywhere in Sonoma has a laid-back vibe, plus wineries that pride themselves on being family-friendly. We visited Preston Farm & Winery, bought a bottle of wine, a loaf of bread and a cheese plate—we also stopped in their farm-to-table market shop, run on the honor system. We grabbed a picnic table and enjoyed an amazing lunch in the vineyard. After we finished, the kids ran around the farm and met the animals.
While there are many more vineyards just like this, we must mention the incredible restaurants in Healdsburg. One of our favorite dinners was at Campo Fina, where the kids played bocce in the courtyard while we enjoyed wine on a nearby bench awaiting our table. The restaurants are outstanding, and our must-eat and must-drink lists for the region are long.
In the mood for the beach? Stop at a vineyard like Porter Creek (one of our favorites), pick up a bottle, grab a picnic lunch from the Jimtown Store or the Dry Creek General Store, and head to the coast for a day on the sand. Healdsburg is one of our favorite destinations for food, wine and family adventures.
