Minnesota’s First Açai Shop Opens In Minnetonka

Traveling all the way from California to Minnesota, entrepreneurs Rachel and Bryant Amundson are bringing açai bowls and a passion for healthy lifestyles.

Rachel graduated from Minnetonka High School in 2012 and attended college in southern Calif., where, she says, açai shops are like Starbucks: seemingly on every corner. (Think of an açai bowl as a thick smoothie—made from frozen and blended açai fruit—you can eat with a spoon, a la ice cream.) Moving back to Minn. and feeling the absence of açai inspired the Amundsons to launch their own shop in Minnetonka, which opened this spring. They say Nautical Bowls is the first of its kind in the state.
To create a custom açai bowl, customers choose from four sorbet bases, including green tea matcha and chia pudding. Then, choose from among 16 different toppings, from fresh fruit and granola to bee pollen.

Amundson recommends mixing all five bases together. “It’s kind of like eating a salad, because there is a new taste in every bite,” Amundson says.

In the hope that their store will help customers live healthier and more active lifestyles, Nautical Bowls will offer discounts to customers who show proof of a workout on the day of their visit.
