On early mornings, at a time when the city is still asleep, Gabrielle Tripps snaps shots of the sky awakening. This shot of Lake Minnetonka, titled Dock, was taken in August 2013 in the Wayzata Beach area. Tripps, with her camera in tow, was waiting to catch the sunrise, as she routinely does.
On these quiet, peaceful mornings, Tripps experiences the area in a different way, without the buzzing activity of the day. “I often feel like a tourist walking around town early in the morning, even though I have lived here my whole life,” says Tripps. “This photo captured a moment in time of the calm waters, before the activities on Lake Minnetonka began.”
Tripps, a native of the area, is halfway through her final year at Wayzata High School, so the shot may come to take on an even greater meaning. “It will be something that will always remind me of my hometown,” she says.
Photography is a pastime that Tripps hopes to continue in the future. “A camera can never fully capture nature’s beauty,” she says. “It can only show a glimpse.” We’re awfully glad she chose to share this beautiful glimpse with us.
