Over the decades, Al & Alma's Supper Club and Charter Cruises has hosted countless anniversaries, birthdays, corporate events and weddings. “For many of our guests, Al & Alma’s is where they celebrate life’s biggest moments and being part of those traditions is what makes this place so special,” says Jamie Geyen of Al & Alma’s.

The Lake Minnetonka charter cruise company is a local dining and celebration mainstay.

For Jamie and Nate Geyen, Al & Alma’s Supper Club and Charter Cruises isn’t just a business—it’s part of their life story. The couple recently became co-owners of the longtime Lake Minnetonka dining and cruise destination, stepping into leadership of a company that has been a fixture on the lake for 70 years.

For Nate, the connection runs especially deep. He is the son of former owners Daryl and Merritt Geyen, who owned Al & Alma’s for 36 years before selling the business to Jay Soule in 2019. Following Soule’s passing in November 2024, ownership returned to the Geyens in accordance with the wishes of Soule and his family.

Growing up around the boats, docks and dining rooms, Nate spent more than a decade working in nearly every part of the operation before eventually returning as an owner. “Al & Alma’s has been part of my life for as long as I can remember,” Nate says. “To now help lead the next chapter of a Lake Minnetonka tradition that has meant so much to our community is incredibly special.”

His early years working in the business helped shape that perspective. Nate served in a variety of roles, including captain, operations and management positions, experiences that gave him a firsthand understanding of the business. “Working on the boats and interacting with guests gave me a deep appreciation for the traditions and the people that make Al & Alma’s special,” he says.

Jamie brings equally deep experience to the business. She has been involved with Al & Alma’s for more than 25 years, focusing largely on operations and guest experiences. Over the years, she has helped oversee events, cruises and the daily coordination required to keep the busy operation running smoothly.

The couple has seen the business from nearly every angle, and stepping into ownership has been especially meaningful. “It really does feel like family,” Nate says. “Many of our employees have been here for years, and we have guests who return generation after generation. Taking ownership after being part of the business for so long feels like a full-circle moment.”

Today, the couple focuses on balancing tradition with thoughtful evolution. “It’s about respecting the past while continuing to build for the future,” Nate says. “That includes refining our menus, expanding events and continuing to create unique experiences both at the supper club and on the water. We recently completed a full update to the interior of Avanti, our 70-foot Express Yacht.”

The Geyens are incredibly grateful to the community and to all the employees and guests who have supported Al & Alma’s over the years. “It’s a special place because of the people who have been part of its story,” Nate says. “We feel very fortunate to carry that story forward.”

That sense of continuity has helped make Al & Alma’s a beloved destination for locals and Twin Cities residents alike. The combination of dining, cruising and and taking in lake views offers something unique. “I think a big part of it is the experience,” Nate says. “There are not many places where you can enjoy a great meal while cruising on Lake Minnetonka or celebrating a special occasion right on the water.”

Over the decades, the venue has hosted countless anniversaries, birthdays, corporate events and weddings. “For many of our guests, Al & Alma’s is where they celebrate life’s biggest moments and being part of those traditions is what makes this place so special,” Jamie says.
